BBs Mtb or road spesific

Yes.....no.....I don't know!

I suppose it depends on which type of BB you are looking at.  Square taper and Octolink/Isis types have different crank axle lengths so you need to use a replacement with the same axle length.

The outboard Hollowtec BB's have more thread to allow for spacers on the MTB ones and a longer plastic tube to protect the BB from moisture in the frame.  You can fit these to a road bike if you use the tube from the BB being replaced.  I wouldn't use a road outboard BB on a MTB if you need all the spacers because this would reduce the thread contact with the BB shell but it would work.

Press fit will work on either.

Ive always used the road shimano BB's on my mtb..

Should you, I dunno, does it make any difference on my bike... nope..

They are cheaper, for some reason.

Thanx David, the nerd and Meezo. Jewbacca jammer oor die spelfout, ons boere sukkel soms met die brits.

no need to apologise. Ek is seker jou Engels is beter as my Afrikaans! It was just the qord you got wrong was too good!

I think I remember reading somewhere that a road mtb has smaller? bearings than a MTB one, but I don't think it makes too much difference to the likes of us!

Hehehe. The thing is my roadbike has a tick sound when pedalling. Its a secondhand ultegra groupset I bought without pedals so its got new pedals. Got a new mtb BB laying around. Gonna give it a try then. Must say its a 10 year old spotless groupset.
