Happened to me this morning behind the horse stables at Bloemendal. As I was coming along they turn and run away as per normal But.... Not today decides Guinea fowel and turns around and fly attacks me in the chest. He attacks again but I'm able to knock him with my front wheel.

With a beautiful morning of Cape weather in store I took off on my usual ride on the Tygerberg MTB trails.

While riding adjacent to Casia restaurant at Nitida, a large guinea fowl appeared from the vinyards and started chasing me..... squawking and flying feathers were the name of the game. I increased my pace becausa I didnt want the fowl to think that I was some sort of predator. However, the chaser was relentless.

After pursuing me for about 20 meters, the fowl ATTACKED me.... It launched itself onto my back and went berserk pecking and clawing at my back and shoulder. I managed to shrug it off and rode away.

Although it only released a bit of adrenaline and didn't really bother me too much, I think it may have been  spectacle though for anyone at Casia restaurant looking onto the trail. I had one cut on my shoulder for my sins and a slightly bruised ego. I suspect it was a mother fowl with recently laid eggs

I was however, a unique experience which I had not encountered in many years of riding the mtb trails and I am appreciative therefore.

Riding in Rietvlei on the weekend. Guineafowl had chicks. Didn't see them until I was next to them. Parent exploded out of bush next to me. Smacked into my shoulder.

Had to sprint to get out of there. Heart rate went up almost 20 BPM in a matter of seconds.

Oh to see video footage of these 'attacks'... must be freaking hilarious. I am sure Guinea Fowls must be one of the stoopidest birds we have...

I was at a game farm a few weeks back. We had a few scraps of bread left and chucked off the front porch... a flock of guinea fowl arrived... but one decided to frantically swallow all the little pebbles around whilst his friends ate the bread crumbs.
