A hindsight note, don't just rush into surgery at the first available date, plan the date i.e. Around family & other personal Commitments, etc. especially financial costs as well as there are always hidden or

Uncovered bills that will Pop up. With that said Also consider the pre-Rehab To reduce the temporary "disabled" time.

Something the last ortho to work on my knee suggested for re-repair of my other knee: strengthening the leg muscles before going for surgery. You don't need the ACL for most exercises that can strengthen the muscles around the knee. In fact, you can squat weights to your heart's galore if you so wished. I can personally testify to that.

The point: strengthen it now, so the lay-off period post surgery is doesn't degrade the leg as much as it would if you didn't. It's amazing how quickly immobilisation of the knee (if that's what will happen in the OP's wife's case), causes the leg muscles to waste away.

Not a requirement, just something to consider if you not rushing to surgery as advised by Milky.
