Had an enjoyable ride in CL. Finished in the front group at 3:07, it looks like 2 guys snuck away and came in at 3:04. Didn't see any crashes in CL thankfully and we managed to get through that rough patch that Frosty warned us about. Thanks guys!

Wheel sucked the first half and then held on to the front bunch for the climbing in second half in CL as well. Had to work a lot in second half. Thanks to the guys pulling us btw. Lost 30 seconds on you guys when the long and short race groups merged but still did a good time. Was too far back to see the 2 guys break but i think it was up that steep hill near near Meyerton somewhere. Saw two guys going hard up that hill and unsure if they were being caught or breaking. Guess they were tired of pulling the bunch the whole time.

And the guys (including me) testing their MTB skills on the hard shoulder that disappeared suddenly, kudos. Sorry to some of the guys that were on my right when everyone had to move over to avoid the end of the tar. Great ride with a lot of variation in road condition. Kept you focused on the riding.

I like that new finish route, A lot safer I reckon. BUT I wish they would make the finish line in the main road. Those corners into the stadium claim victims every year. About 1km from the finish, the VC break came passed us. There was a dude from "coach one" just off the group on a very nice VENGE VIAS. He Passed us just before entering the stadium but he came in way too hot and after some impressive sideways locked rear wheel action he hit the curb and went OTB. All I heard was a loud pop/bang as he hit the curb. I was sure that was some serious broken carbon. I was at the drink station and next second he comes riding up, he rode over the line. I started talking to him. His TOKEN wheels were still as straight as an arrow and the bike looked fine. The front tyre was stuffed though, it had a massive hole in it. Then when I left I saw him riding home with a new tyre on.

The crossover from left lane to right (at Carnival City) is still a problem, especially with fast, slow, tired riders from long and short distances all mixed up. Some of the ladies crashed because outside Carnival as a results of this, which is totally unnecessary if managed properly. People weren't sure when to cross, due to vehicle traffic sharing the same (right) lane.

I think the turn into the stadium is fine, but the amount of debris on the corner is a cause for concern - someone able to corner at high speed risks having their front wheel wash out because of the debris. For me the safest place to be, is the inside (assuming one knows how to corner at high speed, which I do). Most will come in too hot, not drop their centre of gravity and drift to the outside. I'd rather avoid the outside wherever possible.

Exactly what happened to me, i came in hot, saw debris lifted up and dropped it hard again but that slight lift threw me out super wide and i just made it and up off the saddle and sprinted to the line. - Shew wee that was close lol - I finished with a 3h12, first 116km Ride for Sight Race. Loved it

Yeah agree on the cross over 100%. I was more meaning from where we turned off that road earlier than last year.

Just want to thank the rider that helped my friend with a spare tube and bomb when he punctured for the second time in the race and was out of spares. After fixing puncture he still finished the race in under 5 hours, after coming in just barely before cut off for 947. He had been having a bad time for a while and was almost in tears at the finish when he realized how he had improved. So whoever you are, the help you gave made a massive difference to him, thanks a ton.

No real issues with road conditions, with all the rain it would have been difficult for the orgs to have pristine road, yes there were potholes but I found them well marked, plenty of marshals and metro traffic on route. Found the new finish where we turned right after Carnival at first robot rather than second and having to cross over Barry Marais easier and safer.

Well done R4S Orgs.
