What size road bike for a large?

If been doing MTB for a few years. I always ride a large and i am 186cm.

Without in seam and other measure...

 

What size road bike do i need?

Also, it will be entry level type, just used for the road races i do.

A large I suppose or in the order of 55 to 57

A size 57 or 58 would be my guess, for a modern frame.

Varies from frame to frame. L in a Giant TCR for example is a 55.5cm but in a Trek Madone its a 60cm, and Spez Tarmac its 58cm.

 

Best is to google "this type of bike geometry" and look at the second biggest column. Very seldom to they put an XXL on there and usually they have an indicative height range as well.

Look at the stack measurement of the geometry when making this decision, and measure your inseam, that is vital to getting bike sizing right. Just like people's hair colour and eye colour differ so do their builds, I for example have relatively short legs with a longer torso. There is no one size fits all solution for bike fit

 

I do A LOT of research on bike sizes (I am 208cm tall and ride with a saddle height of 90cm from the centre of the crank) as some pointed out above sizing differs between manufacturers.

 

If I was to take a standard approach to bike sizing I would be sitting with a 64 frame (very hard to find) but with some proper research I found that a 60 BMC frame would work for me albeit it with a fairly aggressive drop (134mm)
