Good Afternoon

I've been caught up in some debate with racetec over the timing for this years Cape town cycle tour. my understanding is that the timing is mat to mat, they tell me its gun to mat.

how can they have a neutral zone if its gun to mat?

could someone shed more light for me?

Regards

Someone more knowledgeable will probably have a better answer but as far as I have it the timing has always been gun to mat and I do not recall anything about a neutral zone.

Then again we started near the back.

Always been gun to mat afaik.

Also, the mat was like 5m after the start line so mat to mat wouldn't solve your neutral zone issue.

And finally, why fight with them?

unfortunately your understanding is incorrect, its gun to mat!

and there was no neutral zone

If it was mat to mat, the person winning the sprint finish may not end up with the fastest time. That would just be more confusing.

If I cross the start mat  30 seconds after the winner but cross the finish mat only 20 seconds after him, my time will be 10 sec faster than his.

Gun to mat makes the most sense.

Yes. If it was mat to mat it would be a timetrial. The World Fun Timetrial Championships.

That would be an interesting scenario - if you can start at the back of the bunch, deliberately take your time to roll over the starting mats then chase and catch the group, you can sit in the group with say a 30 second advantage over everyone else. Finish just behind the sprint and still win the group.

ok then i was wrong, it was announced that it was a neutral zone to the onramp to the highway, hence the mats being there.

What time did you get?

3:00:14 according to racetec

but their tracking says i started at 6:42:12 and finished at 09:41:13 which is 2:59:01, hence my confusion..

but its gun to mat and my start time was 06:41:00
