What to do????

Hi Guys,

So this is my pickle, I have 40k and need to buy a new XC bike. I currently have a very cool Silverback Sola 1 but would like a Dual Suspension.

I have looked at the following:

  • Specialized Epic Comp with brain 2.0 – Apparently the brain service is expensive and can work out to quite a bit
  • Specialized Camber Comp – Going out of production next year
  • Silverback Sido 1 – Sorry, I’m brand loyal
  • Scott Spark 950 – Right now, this seems the best bet but I have never owned a Scott before.

Short of going to test ride these (Which I have done), I can’t seem to choose between them and there is nothing better than a “Hubbers” debate. I would appreciate some feedback from the people in the know as I’m fairly new to this world and don’t know all the hazards and pitfalls.

Thanks for your assistance!!

Type of riding? XCO? Marathon? General trail riding?

Of the lot - I'd go for the Scott or Camber. Scott takes the cake with the better fork, IMO. VERY good bike.

I just hope they have fixed all the frame issues with the pivot problems...

otherwise maybe the (I can't believe I am saying this) epic...

If you are brand loyal maybe that is the best - for the same reason I would rather have the new anthem on that list than any of the others.

What, on the new scott? Which problems were those?

Or are you referring to the older model, where improperly serviced pivot bearings placed additional stresses on the chainstay?

The Merida would be bottom of the pile, TBH. Horrible suspension design (like the older Scott) and very, very race-oriented geometry, which doesn't inspire confidence in those looking for a do-it-all bike.

Glad I went with something else then...
