Hekpoort & Breedt's Nek

Hi guys, wondering if anyone has cycled the Hekpoort/Breedt's nek route recently, and specifically in regards to safety?

 

I'm going out that way in prep for the Magalies Monster, but I'll be cycling alone.

Did it on Sunday and seemed completely safe, loads of riders but most were doing it with a mate or group. We did see few lone rangers riding by themselves.

I have ridden it numerous times on my own midweek BUT seeing how this is South Africa, adding a bit of caution to your ride wouldn't be a bad thing....And remember its not just robbery you need to think about, its not a very busy road (if you are doing it midweek) so if you take a fall etc it could be a while before someone discovers you...

What's more is a bailed on the 70km, and registered for the 33km. I know Breedt's nek hasn't been in that route for sometime, but the 33km still has 650m of climbing. Keen to put in some distance and climbing on that North West terrain, but ultimately I'll be riding the Monster blind.

There is a farm just as you pass through the bustling metropolis of Hekpoort on the left.

it's called Belourie Farm, and parking will cost you R30 or R40 (cant remember exact amount)

 

They make lekker breakfast rolls and the beer is cold for afterwards.
