Rather a good hardtail than a bad full suspension bike.

Find a good hardtail. A slightly more aggressive hardtail would be a good bike to get back on the trails with, although they aren't that common in SA.

Any suggestions?

So you would say a 20k dual Suspension like the Silverback Sido 2 is not good enough?

That is a very nice bike to get yourself started with and will have so much fun with on the trails

I think what the other guy was referring to was not to go buy a R20k dual suspension just for the sake of buying a dual sus for that price and potentially buying a crappy bike...  But the Sido 2 is anything from being considered garbage!! I rode the Silverback Sprada 2 for almost 2 years and had a blast on it.

Personal opinion:

R20k is a lot of money.

Buy a new Sido 2 and you find out 4 months from now you don't like MTB then you get 60% of what you spent when you sell it. Or love MTB and you want to upgrade, same story.

I've helped MANY a friend buy their first and subsequent bikes and from my experience everyone who bought their first bike new regretted it.

Buy a second hand hardtail for R10k. If you like cycling sell it for R9k in 6 months time and then just buy a second hand decent dual sus for R20k.

My opinion only.
