...........and No its not photo shopped, it happened in Brownsville Texas on June 02 2008. The driver was DRUNK, (YES WINDBREAKER - DRUNK) and had drugs in the car. He ploughed into the bunch killing one and injuring 10.

............................The cyclists also said they were riding single file.................................Yeah right.!

Wasn't it in Mexico in the 1st thread?

Yes, was a road race in Mexico. Car is on wrong side of road during an official race so there was no need to be in single file.

This picture was debated to death here on the hub last week, but anyway according to the articles i saw it was in Mexico....

"You never think that a car is going to plow into the middle of the peloton, but that is exactly what happened at a race in Monterrey, Mexico this weekend"

"Authorities said the wreck happened 15 minutes into the 34-kilometer (21 mile) race Sunday along a highway between Playa Bagdad and Matamoros, across from Brownsville, Texas."

yes, there's a good possibility they were riding single file !! From the pic, you will see only 1 person missed the collision. Chances are, he was the leading cyclist and saw what was coming his way.

Seeing as you introduced my name to this thread... I am aware of at least

3 incidents in South Africa in the past 12 months where drunk drivers

have killed cyclists. One occurred at the bottom of my road (well

almost).

But porky, you are missing the point. I never said that South Africa was unique, although my point is that in relative terms as a society we are far more inclined to condone drink driving, than all the first world countries (including the USA).

But my question is why are you so defensive about this fact? You sound a little like Mbeki & Manto about AIDS.

OK, get your facts straight...

Happened in Mexico, driver was an American from Brownsville, and wasn't drunk, he admitted to authorities he was under the influence of cocaine when he was arrested. The riders were not in single file, they were participating an an organised event with police escort.

Oh, and for future reference, search this forum and maybe google before posting.

I never saw this thread before, (sometimes I have to work) what was the fuss about, or was it just a "for your info" discussion.?

i think tnt1 (aka the king of google) got annoyed because this topic (started by your truly elsewhere last week) had been thoroughly discussed and the hubbers here posted without knowing the proper details.

I didnt see the post of yours last week, so cant say.?

..........I dont think it matters if it was in Mexico or Mayfair, thats just a specific, the jist is still "were the cyclists in a single file or not", looking at the pic it looks very much like they were not, and there seems to be some confusion as the Associated press report clearly says the driver was drunk and stoned.

Maybe if they were in single file the accident could have been avoided??Not sure.!

Staggering pics though, are they not HR?? I wonder who took them.?

Just mentioning that the pic had been posted before would have been good enough and ignore it if you've seen it before.

i posted a piece from a brownsville paper (where the driver was from), which said it was taken by a city official.

another problem is that the car was on the wrong side of the road.
