People are scared of the roads.Although cyclists are only being mowed down at a rate of one a week, they get far more publicity than a motorist getting killed. Not only from newspapers (I think it is only Beeld that still reports on cycling deaths, but I may be wrong), but also from chit-chat at clubs and forums such as this.Motorists and car passengers are popping their cleats at a rate of 1 000 per month, about 100 per month more than from aids. Smoking-related diseases still rates number one, with about 26 000 per annum departing for the big ashtray in the sky. However, newspapers hardly print a fullstop when a wheezer dies and therefore, cycling is more dangerous than smoking. Makes sense, doesn't it?
