Evil Following V1 or something else?

I have the option of getting a V1 Following at a good deal. It's a 2017 version but I am wondering if I should look at something else may be? The V2 MB didn't have a lot of changes and seemed to be mainly boost on the rear, trunion shock, space for piggy back, coil and air shocks and a little growth. I am 177cm and looking at a large frame as I have checked the geometry as compared to previous bikes I've owned and it's closer to what I've ridden than the medium. It would be good to hear from anyone who is riding a large and is a similar height.

What else would you consider? I know it was a great frame when released but do you think after a few years it isn't as progressive as it was against the competition.

My other thought is to save more money and look for a Jeffsy frame, a Cotic Flare Max or either Propain Hugene or Ibis Ripmo - lottery choices. I don't want a long legged enduro bike but I would like a frame that is happy to enter local enduro races and not get overwhelmed at Klipberg and others. I have ridden a specialised Enduro and Stumpjumper and found the fit difficult to get on with. The Cotic is closer to the price of the Evil while the Ripmo is nearly triple and a long way off and the Jeffsy would be nice but I haven't seen a frame only carbon option in the classifieds ever.

At 175cm my Large Following is a perfect fit.

It is the most capable trail machine I have owned (and I've owned and sold plenty) and will be a keeper for some time. Very versatile, including enduro and can even be built to compete at XC events (ask the guys at Trail-Tech, they know these bikes and build options to a tee).

Not as pedal-efficient as others but can easily be pedalled for days / stage races.

The V2 "more betterer" has some tweaks but nothing the V1 cannot compete with .... sizing on V2 is longer out front but it's ever so slight - I rode my mates V2 Large and he is 183cm but it fitted me well, without compromise.

I have yet to experience a more versatile bike.

My $0.02.

Great response. That is generally my thought process but I was second guessing my self with the endless release of newer, slacker, better, bigger bikes that keep coming and being touted as 'the one'.

The Following is my favourite bike by a long shot - really capable and fun bike to ride. Do take into consideration sizing though, I am 1.78 on a medium Following MB. It's too short for me and I unfortunately have to run a 60mm stem now - don't make the same mistake.

As for MB vs v1, the main difference is trunnion mounted piggy back shock and boost (if you don't need that then V1 is perfect), and MB is 20mm longer in each size across the board...

Just my 2c, I am 178cm and on a medium Insurgent so just double check sizing.

I do understand the following and insurgent are vastly different bikes but on the large demo insurgent it just felt wrong!!! If you can ride one and don't just look at numbers, its about feel too

Just a question. Fork lengths. They recommend 120 130 odd would a 140 be okay? I've got a pike set at 140 that I'd like to put in it. Thoughts?

It's designed around 120 to 140 fork. I run it 130mm - feels balanced there. I wouldn't run it 140mm, but a friend who also has one (much better rider than me technically) is going to up his to 140mm for better performance when the trail points down.

It's something you can always play around with once you have the bike though. Keep in mind that the mm of travel on this bike means nothing when you compare it to other bikes - it feels like alot more!
