Riding some trails and backroads - W Cape

Hi,

I'm looking for an area to visit for a week or so with my bike and camera gear (not necessarily together). Backroads are fine as I plan on spending a solid chunk daily in the saddle. This can be a mountain bike or gravely kind of thing (I have a trail bike that I seldom ride). Ideally, not tricky trails - a few days on those will leave me wanting....

I've never considered this before, but am now and am finding myself largely clueless. First things that spring to mind are Cederberg, Swartberg or similar - anywhere in the  W Cape with solitude. Days will be a ride followed (or preceded) by a landscape photo expedition. This will be done alone. I'd probably need a spot that has power to charge camera, lights, GPS etc.

Any ideas? links, experiences etc welcomed

so you need out and back loops?

Cederberg is your best bet really, to tick off both boxes.Stay at sanddrif/kromrivier and you can go north(algeria), south(oasis) or northeast(wuppertal). great canvas for pikshas

otherwise montagu, just let these pics whet your appetite - https://eroicasouthafrica.com/

further a field prince albert.

Don't forget proper winter gear if you going to the Cederberg anytime soon.

100 points for a pic of a Snow Protea with your bike in the background.

Noted... a voyage of self-discovery to find myself frozen will be a disappointment

Namaqualand for sure.

Would love to do what you are planning.

Have had the itch for some time but also wondered how and where.

The West Coast would also be amazing.

Just a btw - the Hex Valley was at -1*C for most of the morning.

Kromrivier it is... If you see and idiot on a trailbike doing gravel miles, it's me

I still have psychological scarring from The Eroica's Ou Berg Pass... next year, I'll be armed with a cassette more suited to my legs

I'm doing this next month.  In one day.  Been off the bike for a month already with a broken collarbone, so it's going to be interesting from a fitness perspective!

I did this route this weekend.  Amazing scenery, hard climbs, good flats, plenty of water, friendly locals, lots of wildlife and a really great experience.  Even had a pair of border collies running along for 55km before we managed to get them to stay at the Cederberg Oasis and called the owners.

Was a really good ride and I recommend it to everyone.
