G'day hubbers

My brother in law/cycling partner and I are planning on bike packing from Pretoria to Waterval Boven come December. This will be our first multi-day/packing experience, and we are looking for any advice that we can get. If anyone has done a similar ride, or part of the ride, we would REALLY appreciate any route advice and tips!

The guestimation is that it will be about a 320 km trip, probably over 3 or so days, done one a MTB. The fewer tar roads the better is the general idea.

Thanks in advance!

Have a look here:

I think you can follow/modify around their days 1&2, then do your own day 3, looks like 50km distance for 3.

Thanks, that is a great idea! Did you do the tour? If so would you be willing to share any gpx files (or a link to Strava to get them)? Unfortunately the routes on the website are images, and I can't actually download the gpx.

Are you finishing in Boven itself, or somewhere nearby? I might have some ideas on what Dullstroom-Boven looks like

Somewhere nearby, but literary 2km away. Thanks for the routes though, they look interesting. Like the fact that it is a bit further from the N4 than our original planned route.

Cool. i have a plan in my head to ride Dullstroom-Ngodwana-Kaapschehoop :D. Good forestry roads all the way there, and Kaapschehoop has just an endless amount of riding - almost 1000km of mapped roads.

I have kayaked the wilge river from bronkhorstspruit to the olifants confluence and through the gorge - this is much more interesting territory than following the N4 (although on a bike you're likely to have less waterfalls and crocodiles to deal with)

We used to paddle the Olifants but it was not exactly overflowing with water..

Fairly well documented route, as the Cullinan to Tonteldoos route follows it. Then it's just Tonteldoos to Dullstroom, and Dullies to Boven, all on dirt.
