apologies for the big pics again.

the red area on the candy is much larger than the eggbeater - more contact area - but of course the pedal weighs a bit more

Unless your shoes are super floppy, I can't really see how the size of the contact area makes a difference to the transfer of power from your legs to the cranks. If it was an issue I assume the pros would be using teh candy's.

Para' date=' I have a spare set of

Eggbeaters which you are more than welcome to borrow and try out. Just

Thanks T. What time do you get home in the evening?

Thug you ride eggbeaters?

Yes, have done for the past couple of years and am extremely happy with them. Even got them for my roadbike when I bought it.

100% correct JasonW the pro Mtb'ers ride super stiff shoes and eggbeaters.

Sauser, Stander, Naef.

In fact before the Quattro (crank brothers road pedal) was developed, Freddie Rodrigues rode with rode Eggbeaters AND won a stage of the Giro.

a sprint finish nogal.

Thanks for the recomendation Shamus, used my candy c's over the weekend, on a track along the wild coast, lots of sticky mud and sand that clog up the shimano pedals, the candy's were hard clip in on occasion but generally i managed to clip in and the cleats didn't stick as before.?

Here is something different. No matter how well your pedals can shed mud, if your cleats are caked with mud, you will not get in, even Eggbeaters. I did it on Saturday and had to stop and clean my cleats.
