Strongs for you mate, glad you managed to make it out of this one largely unscathed.

That Kuilsriver road is a *** one, everyone seems to be a boy racer with exhaust pipes big enough to lose a badger in, the shoulder is strewn with glass, and there are no climbs until Polkadraai. You've just given me another reason to stay away from that road

Glad to hear you're ok!

Very specific tangent time. If you're going to get stuck in the traffic management, here's something to look into (other than having everyone ride bikes, of course). Extend Steenberg Road (M42) to M5. No traffic lights with a bridge over the train track. Nice and direct. There apparently was a plan to do it and you can see that space has been made available. It will go past the estuary, which sucks but the traffic over the bridge and trucks going down Albertyn Road/ getting stuck under the bridge is not sustainable. I know that building more roads doesn't really solve congestion but I can't see us winning with active or public transport in this area any time soon.

ah yes, the Steenberg Road Extension

I have been chatting to the Senior Traffic Engineer: South Region about this since March 2018.

it is the obvious thing to do.

spoiler alert:don't get too excited

I noticed your post about the accident registry on another thread. I'm sorry to hear about the cause of the new found motivation. Glad you came out of it able to ride again. Seemingly small things like cutting a corner can be so devastating. Hope you're back on the bike soon!

thanks.

was a slow speed accident, as the dude braked in time.

i'll be fine, got a metally taste in the my mouth.

the front wheel is at the bikehospital. lets see if he makes good on his promise to pay.

the problem is, i think this is actually the first time I've been hit by a car.

I commute to work (occasionally) via the M5 - which I know is not legally allowed, but is the best option. just waiting for all the "told you so" messages that come from people who think that car travel is the only option.

Ah Juan that is properly ***... I must say, nothing takes away the shaken up feeling of a near miss... I got a little philosophical about life for a few weeks after the mirror slap, and I still ride the kuilsriver road, but I do stay on the inside now and it's an ever present issue in the back of my mind...

But for now, I've not left the road and it's still my favourite place to pedal a bike.

Heal up, hope the bike is 100% and the dude pays.

Hey schmorgel, it's definitely not the best road and I am considering cutting it out of the training loop... Will likely go R44 to polkadraai and then just turn around instead... Shame though, I really enjoy the flats! Hahaha
