Okay so if you are anti ebike then leave this thread now.

I want to change my wifes MTB to an ebike and check if she likes it prior to laying out big cash for a new ebike.

I am looking to see where i can get one of those rear wheels with the motor in the hub - so i can retrofit the bike and see how it goes.

Bike is a 29er Momsen.

Any idea where i can get one of them and how much.

wheel isn't the biggest issue , rather the battery and some type of torq sensor to regualte the power to the motor via some type of switch

Thanks guys,

Anyone used the chilled squirrel route at all and if so what are the experiences ?

To be honest, I think the best bet is to ask a shop to loan one for the weekend. Your wife will not know if she likes the vibe of an e'bike on a bodge DIY job. The Scott e-Geneis I tried out was amazing and a lot more responsive and intuitive than by wife's ebike commuter.

Yep got that planned for this weeknd. Josh @cyclists is loaning me one. They stat at R 40k and go north from there (BH). Seems like everything you get what you pay for and a retrofit is never going to be as smooth as an integrated system - good point you make.

I have ridden 2 x EBikes now and the better integrated ones are pretty damn impressive.

TBH I would love to buy the wife a monster enduro rig that i can ride as well, but that plan is also fraught with risk - she will never use the bigger tyres and more aggressive suspension.
