I have just taken my Crossmarks off. They are great in the dry, but do not work well in the Cape mud. Will use them again in summer.

I got a set of Kenda Karma's for winter. Have not ridden them, so can't comment yet. However mrs mountain_lion has been using a set for a while and where my Crossmarks turned into mud slicks her Karma's had no problem in clearing the mud.

I use Crossmarks in the dry season, and Continental Mountain Kings at other times. The Mountain Kings have been great. Also used by Evans and George at the Epic, and Andrew McLean. They offer great protection from sidewall cuts and punctures - have yet to need to repair them. And pretty good at mud shedding, or gripping in loose sand and on rocks.Cranky2008-06-15 07:13:59

Maxxis High Rollers

Mitchelin Mux X

Panaracer Trailraker

WTB Weirwolf

Difficult to say just like that. Where do you ride? How do you ride? What do you ride?

I use Stan's Conversion and haven't had any issues or a single puncture in over 18 months of use.

Hey thanx for all the replies, but non of u guys aggree on any tire?? There must be something out there that is more common.

Continental Moutain King looks great - it has done the Epic. Like Kenda Karma but think its more for the mud.

The kind of terrain I ride is different - Normal Karroo style bos and some mud and slippery terrain in and arround Cape Town/Stellenbosch.

Planning to do the Transbaviaans with friends...

Any thoughts...  tire wise

Majority of Trans Baviaans is hardpack.  If it rains, the last 20-30km can be very muddy.  So need a fast roller that has decent mud-clearance.  No real technical stuff, except loose rocks.  Crossmarks work well in this race if it is dry.  But have a look at new Maxxis Monorails - I have had them on for 2 weeks and they are great from a rolling resistance point of view, and they will clear mud better than Crossmarks.  Otherwise, Schwalbe Nobby Nic's are the best all-round tyre (but expensive).  If it is dry in Trans Baviaans, you can actually look at Racing Ralphs.  I will go for either Racing Ralphs or Monorails.

Anybody use the Bontrgaer revolt super x tires.

Stan's did not manage to seal my rear Karma yesterday when I pinched it (5mm just behind one of the nobs) - although I was running the pressure a bit too low and it is not the tubeless version. The ZTR rims did however handle it very well.

i am using them at the moment and ill never look at another tyre unless its another bontrager thay are awesome tyres low rolling resistance and a decent enough tread for cornering i am very happy with mine

and if you want another awesome tyre look at the bontrager Jones XR also very fast rolling and very grippy in the corners (more agressive tread on sides) and not too bad on the weight side either

Done that - can I just use one of those instant patches or will the stan's solution eventually remove it?

Was thinking of running a slightly more robust tire on the rear though
