Warren Melissa Go Riding Posted January 8, 2019 Share Hi Guys, I need your expert opinion please. Last year I bought a Specialised Stump Jumper 29 with 120mm travel front and back. As you progress you get fast and fast means more travel wouldn't be a bad idea. I have a revelation front shock and fox rear. Is there a reliable amount to increase the travel by without affecting the geometry too much? Has anyone done this before? I have googled and cant find out much. On a side note, anyone know the widest you can go on tyres on the non boost frame? Thank you for your assistance as always
MrJacques Posted January 8, 2019 Share You could put a 140mm fork on, but increasing the rear travel won't work.
droo Posted January 8, 2019 Share 2017 Stumpy came out with 135 rear and 150 front... you sure you haven't got a Camber? thisismyotherbike and gummibear
Grease_Monkey Posted January 8, 2019 Share If you have a Camber, which I suspect is the case, you can increase the front travel to 130mm without affecting geo too much, possibly 140mm - but at this point it will start climbing worse. The rear travel can be increased as the Stumpy and Camber share the same frame with a different yoke. This will set you back quite a bit though and will involve new yoke and rear shock. If you go that route fork should be set to 140-150mm travel. Personally I found my Stumpy ('16-18 model) most balanced at 140mm front travel. If I was you I would just bump the travel up to 130mm in front and leave it at that. MDJ and Arno J Rossouw
Arno J Rossouw Posted January 8, 2019 Share I agree. I had a 130 Rev on my Camber and it worked well. My Stumpy is a 2016 with a 140 Pike. The 2017 and 2018 had even more travel. The 2019 also comes in a ST version to replace the Camber with 130 travel. It would probably be more cost-effective to replace the bike with a Stumpy if you need more travel. worriesnot
River Rat Posted January 8, 2019 Share The 2018 short travel Stumpy has 130 front and 120 rear. The front upgrade is easy with a new air spring to 140 while the rear can be upgraded to 130 by changing the S shape connections on the FSR. The estimate I was given when I bought mine is R1.5k for the air spring and a bit less for the S connector. MDJ
Warren Melissa Go Riding Posted January 9, 2019 Share Sorry guys, its the camber, appreciate all the feedback. Ill be going 130mm. Thank you again
droo Posted January 9, 2019 Share What fork is on there now? If it's the Revelation you can just swap the spring out and you're good to go, if it's the Fox you're in for a new fork.

droo Posted January 9, 2019 Share How so? Been swopping airsprings on my F34 quite a bit... Depends on the model. The 34 can be swapped around quite a bit depending on what length it was supplied. 32 are a dogshow, as are Rhythm series. Revelations, Pikes, Yaris and Lyriks are easy. Eugéne Alberts Posted June 26, 2019 Share Looks like I am running into a lot of old posts this week. Did you change to a longer travel fork? I have the same Camber that I put a 140mm pike on. Warren Melissa Go Riding

Eugéne Alberts Posted July 3, 2019 Share Hi, I went 130, whats it like with the 140mm??IT is a different machine on the downhills. Much nicer and confidence inspiring. I didn't pick up any noticeable deterioration in climbing ability. Most likely because the weakest link in that aspect is still myself. Most likely because the weakest link in that aspect is still myself. I also ride a Camber Comp, with 120mm Revelation. Just curios, how much did the Pike set you back? Would it be feasible to go 140mm on the Revelation? I would also like to ramp up the travel, but because of my baby girl draining me of cash flow, I can't just replace a fork at will... I am still unschooled when it comes to shocks...
