Vetplant Posted January 25, 2019 Share I already use a Garmin Fenix 3 on the wrist to record activities for Training Peaks and Strava, but I would like something upfront on the handlebar to view metrics easily. I have ridden with the Fenix on the mount but the screen is a bit tight and it is a schlep to mount it on the special carier every time I want to use it there. Obvious answer is getting a Edge520 or something similar in the classifieds, but why not use one of the many old smartphones lying around and just run an App to show the metric, thousands of Rands saved. So, the actual question: Which App would you recommend to display metrics during a ride and possibly even record the ride altogether instead of running the Fenix 3 on my wrist? Obvious contenders are Wahoo and Strava, what have your guys experienced with these on your rides and can you suggest something else?
The Ouzo Posted January 25, 2019 Share For many years I have used Cyclemeter.Have never had an issue with it and i like the way you are able to do reports on rides. thing like totals for the month, year per route etc. Even though I now record everything with my Garmin I still export it to Cyclemeter so I have everything in one place and I'm able to analyse the results better. Cat2forLife Posted January 25, 2019 Share But on a serious note: the smartphone's battery wouldn't last long enough to record your ride if you keep the backlight on to view the ride data. Vetplant
capediver Posted January 25, 2019 Share If you got Android, try Orux Maps...great app with tons of features, including offline maps and Head's up tracking...https://www.oruxmaps.com/cs/en/

I used to keep my phone in my back pocket with a headphone in the left ear for the sole purpose of hearing the read outs.
Cippo Posted January 25, 2019 Share I have recorded Strava on an Iphone 5 for an entire DC years back. Just put your fone on low battery mode. If you need HR then you will have to use Wahoo with their bluetooth Tickr belt. Vetplant

Just checked and my Stages Crank links seamlessly with the Strava Aop, which is what I will be looking at predominantly. Gonna see how it goes. Thanks everyone. Oh ok I wasn't aware of that. Sounds pretty cool (pardon the pun).
