I love how guys can so openly bash a product they have never tried based purely on assumption.

Last year I was given a bag of goodies at a bike race and in there was a 'bottle strap' similar to one of those saddle straps but for a bottle.

I tried it out on my top tube.

It doesn't work. Don't get one of those.

can you maybe give more details on this product so we can avoid it?

Umm... It looks like a saddle strap but has a picture of it holding a bottle and not a tube/tire lever and bomb...

I honestly don't recall the name or brand, but it didn't really do it's duty terribly well.

If you know what a saddle strap looks like, you will recognise the pesky critter straight away!

So I am in the same boat with a Camber , I dropped the dropper post for trans and have put a 2nd bottle cage on seat post and  this works

HOWEVER

The 2nd bottle on seat post gets dirty ( ok a cap could fix this ), in fact the main one in triangle gets dirty in rougher stuff.

The main bottle is very low on an XL frame and at 6'3" so I need some easy trail to reach that far down so I tend to not drink enough , there are times where you can shove a camelbak mouth piece in and go back to two hands and drink on the go so a better hydration strategy.

So plan going forward is all tools tubes etc on bike or in frame ( camber cubby hole) and only water in a slim Camelbak , i used to half freeze this which i miss.

So while a good exercise , I will go back to camel bak for anything that needs more than one bottle

There are some options but I'd say that the Lyne Holy Rail is the go to for getting tow bottles in awkward spaces or for extra storage. It's local and they can give good advice. There is a thread here all about it and has a print out so you can check it on your frame.

Other 'off bike' options are:

- Hip pack like the Camelbak Repack. Kit, water and no restrictions with a free back.

- Henty Enduro pack. Looks like a 'best of no worlds' but met a guy who had one and it looked really good. I tried it on and it's is very stable, no bouncing and you can't feeling the straps. still very open on the back but loads of storage for tools, external storage for bars and gel and comes with a 3l bladder that sits in a insulated pouch.

Sorry for the small pick, I can't fit a second bottel on my frame and I don't like the way a camelback sits over almost my whole back, bought one of these hip/bum/fanny packs on Takealot for less than R150 to test the water with hip bags, must say, I am a convert!

Will transition to more cycling specific bags in the future, but this is works well enough. On the really bumpy stuff it shakes a bit, but not too bad. Best part is that my entire back is open!
