New Hardtail vs 2nd hand Dual sus

Totally agree - I have finished 6 Transkaroos, 4 Cederberg 100 milers and 8 K2Cs - all on hard tails - no problems. So I really fail to see why one needs a dual sus, unless age is catching up with you?

My bike needs to be ready 6 days a week, 1 for fun and 5 for the commute of which the morning 11km is tarmac and the afternoon 24km is 50/50 offroad/tarmac. A dual sus is simply too much maintenance when it comes to that amount of riding.

Plus there is nothing more irritating than a squeaky dualie. I like my bikes stealthy, like "Die Skim"...

n+1 ....

HT for the commute

Full Sus for the week-end ..... not because it is "needed", just because it is so nice on the old bones ...

I'm seriously considering this option. I have a friend in the area who could view the bike for me - could you perhaps provide me with some pointers in terms of what to look out for?

Or should I rather ask a reputable LBS to check the bike? If so, any recommendations in the area - the owner lives in the southern suburbs, and works in the city.

Are there any associated risks with buying a carbon frame 2nd hand? Based on the add, are there any components on the bike which would require upgrading in the near future?

THIS is a good deal - guy's a bit clueless though, that's a Reba and not Fox.

I'd have a hubber or a LBS check out the bike!

It's a good bike, but I have seen two XTC that, like my 3 Talons, broke the top tube right before the seat tube. Because the top tube tapers and gets thinner towards the seat tube it experiences more stress in that area.

If the owner is in the City, and can bring the bike to work I could also always take a look and give you some feedback?

I work in Green Point and can get around the city very easily on my bicycle.
