Hi All,

Newbie here (to bike hub and to cycling/triathlon)

I am doing Durban Iron Man 70.3 in June and have been doing all my riding on a MTB. But its now time to get serious and buy a decent road bike for the job (Intend to continue triathlon and things such as 94.7/Argus etc after 70.3 in June).

I have been offered a brand new Silverback Space as an option.

Does anyone have one of these bikes? What are your comments/thoughts?

And perhaps as an add on, what would be an alternative in the price range? (R20-R25k) for the application.

Many thanks :)

I have one (although now it lives on my IDT after I upgraded). Absolutely nothing wrong with it though. Really good value for money. Only thing I did was replace the 11-25 cassette with an 11-28.

If you are going to be using it for triathlons as well as road races I would suggest getting some clip-on aero-bars and a second seatpost and saddle. Then get the one seat set up for normal road cycling and the other set up for triathlon. Makes life a lot easier.

The newer Space's were more comfort orientated, more upright riding position, more flex to soak up the bumps etc. It will work for a Triathlon, but as mentioned before, the Scalara would be a better option. More stiffer, more aerodynamic and generally faster.

Just bear in mind, that if you are used to a mtb, you are going to feel very awkward on a road bike, especially a Scalera. Just stick with it and you'll get used to the low position, stiff frame and higher speed.
