pedaling technique

Slowbee

Slowbee' date=' for really good technique your focus on every stroke should be to push down with your heel on the down stroke and pull up on the upstroke so you are continually working with a smooth round motion.

slowbee, this is exactly right.

this is something good to practice on your IDT (one of the boredom relievers). Of course, focus after pulling up on quickly rotating your ankle so you're ready to push on the downward stroke. you'll be smooth in no time. I've just been working on this recently-too easy!

Slowbee, your ankle should never be weak so to speak so you'll only use your ankle a little bit and the rest will be done with the calves, quads and hammies

Are we making any sense hereLOL

to much sense ... to many things to think about - remembering that you also need to stay upright on your bike at some point, or else you will be posting something on your most embarasing cycling moment.

have you got an IDT?

i would rather look at my bonsai plants than spend time on an IDT.

Ok if I can afford rollers that might be different - but not those other IDT types

If so, do some one-leg pedal strokes (swap after a few min.) with low resistance (it's harder than you think) - that will teach you to push n' pull and develop a smooth pedal stroke ...

I'm only suggesting you use it for perfecting the technique and because you are able to focus whilst doing so. maybe you could watch yourself in the mirror and take us a WW style photo!! LOL

the best imagery that I have heard is to visualise scraping mud off the bottom of your shoe at the bottom of the downstroke and rolling a small barrel of fine wine (perhaps a Chateau Lafite Rothschild from Bordeaux) over the top.

Just to keep it on track, pedal stroke i use is as follows.

1 - train by pedalling 1 leg at a time

2 - Flat & fast = keep foot horizontal (but also every now and again, wiggle toes & scrape the mud off the soles or my toes go numb)

3 - Hill climb standing = pull heel up as if dancing on your toes

4 - hill climb seated = push heels into tar and pull against handle bars

FF, would you use your ankle to do this? or would you keep your foot level ?
