I never raced but was told by my buddy in the A bunch that they never put the rubber mats over the railway lines on Kromme Rhee road.

In the dry those tracks are dangerous enough as they are extremely high and the road/tar around the tracks is quite bad, I can't begin to imagine how nervy it must've been going over them in the rain and wind.

Sidenote: apparently that's where the eventual winner(still u18) attacked and rode to victory.

He attacked at the left-hand turn onto the Kromme Rhee road a few km before the railway line. I was on his wheel and it was quite hectic trying to bunny hop over the railway line. Can't imagine how the group crossed it safely while trying to catch the break. Luckily the lines are perpendicular to the road and not at an angle.

That's where I got stuck. Tried to be cautious over the railway and fell off the back and couldn't catch the group again.

Don't think so...coz that wouldn't be the winners actual time. They would need to adjust the Beta to accommodate the weather, etc.

I'm sure it was a mistake unless there's another reason.

Winner time get adjusted to reflect what top guy would have done it at .. (I still have not worked out that part of seeding) , then beta is automatically calculated based on the amount of fast guys going slower vs slow guys going faster...  If lot of "fast guys" go slower, beta normally higher , if lot slow guys go faster .. then beta lower.

its all automated, 0 persons involved

The reason why one tonner is normally high beta is that fast guys ride with their teams, so lots of "fast guys" go slower... skewing the calcs

you can search for seeding here on bikehub .. comes up often... the whole calculations is also on ppa/racetec site somewhere
