Wannabe Posted September 25, 2019 Share And just like that, received this mail: Good afternoon all, The Pedal Power association is in a predicament. The weather for this Sunday is not looking great and rain is forecast. https://www.yr.no/place/South_Africa/Western_Cape/Paarl/long.html We do not like to cancel or postpone events, however we do need to make sure that the safety of our riders comes first. So our question to you is, Will you ride on Sunday despite the rain, or would you prefer us to look at postponing the event to another day? Please reply to this mail with your thoughts and we will take a majority rules approach in order to make our decision. Thank you in advanceYours in Cycling

JohanLotter Posted September 25, 2019 Share This is what they replied when I enquired whether it is still happening and when entries close: "We are currently watching the weather forecast and we will be making a call by the end of the day as to whether we postpone or not. Should the event happen you can enter online until tomorrow night at 12am yes. You will also be able to enter on the morning of the event as we will charge online rates not late entry fees as before."
DieselnDust Posted September 25, 2019 Share prospective riders should be really honest with themselves about riding. The forecast looks grim. Black South Easter with heavy rain between 6am to 11am.It would be a shame if 600 say they're ok with the bad weather and only 100 pitch on race day Duane_Bosch, Wannabe, Ferro and 2 others

MDJ Posted September 25, 2019 Share I've been tracking the forecast on windguru for most of the week, hoping for a change as we get closer. It has at least improved from the earlier gale force wind prediction (60kph), to less wind - but heavy rain predicted at the moment. It makes sense to postpone it imho - at least we have one-tonner next weekend. Saturday looks good for a nice long DC training ride DieselnDust

Wannabe Posted September 26, 2019 Share And it's back on. (for now ) Good morning all, I wanted to say a huge thank you for all your feedback on this event. It is really appreciated and great to have so many people wanting to help and make suggestions. I have taken another look at the weather this morning and it is looking much better. There will be some light rain from 12pm, but nothing to cause alarm. I have also spoken to the traffic department and the marshals and I have made them aware of the possibility of light rain later on in the ride. So I have made the decision to go ahead with the event. I will be sending out an event letter tomorrow morning with all the details. Please note the long route starts at 6:45am and the shout route. Will start at 7:15am. It may be a little cooler on the morning, so please dress appropriately. If you are riding the long route, please note should you not feel up to it on the day you are more than welcome to drop to the shorter route. You will just need to tell reception. Thank you again for your patience and understanding on this matter. Please feel free to contact me should you have any further questions. Now LETS RIDE!!!
