A quarq spider users a specific 8 bolt Sram crank that can only be used with quarq spiders.

I’ve yet to try mount a direct mount chainring on the cranks but I don’t think it’s possible.

So I went with a Power2Max and this weekend will be the first test  :w00t:

Still curious to know who uses pedal smoothness and L-R balance and if it's worth the upgrade?

This is not true, the quarq Dzero has 8 bolts and they provide the tool for removing the PM which comes with the PM so you can also replace with a spider whilst it is in for service/repair/warranty etc.

Edit: there even one in the classifieds without crank arms to prove it https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/363800-quarq-dzero-spider-and-rings/

What do you ride then while the quart is in for repair etc? No normal chainring will fit.

It's not possible because no one makes an 8 bolt direct mount chainring. I asked my lbs if quarq comes with a spare spider and he looked in the box. No spare 8 bolt non power spider so I'm waiting for the explanation around how I posted bs....
