Changing saddle without altering fit

My saddle is done for. Its now gotten to the seriously uncomfortable stage, its peeling the top layer off exposing the sponge padding underneath and it just looks grotty. Got a new saddle I can put on that came with the bike (not the best saddle but it will do until the end of next month when I can get a new saddle)

My question is, how do I switch the two without altering the fit? Currently my bike is like a flipping dream, no pain anywhere (other than from a worn out saddle) so I want to try and keep it as close as possible. I have thought of marking the rails and then transferring the marks to the new saddles rails, but that would only guarantee that the rails are the same, Anyone have a better solution?

On a side note, what does one do with stuffed saddles? is there a recycling option?

I would suggest a two fold approach to your dilemma:

  • Download an app called "saddle adjust" from the app store - here's a link if you have an Android phone: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.saddl I would then take the deg angle of the existing saddle and save it.
  • Then I will mark the rails of the old saddle on the bike, then remove the saddle and carry the marks over to the new saddle by putting the rails against each other

Once the new saddle is then fitted onto the bike open the app and get the saved angle and match it.

The actual height can differ also .Rather take the measurements from the top of the saddle.Stick to the same form of saddle .Flat or curved sitbone area ,and the rear angle .I have a few bikes and all have different saddles ,but here principle form and width are similar .When i put a new one on or make changes ,i go for a ride with a tool and adjust as i ride until i find the sweet spot .If a saddle is uncomforable after the third one hour ride ,it is not going to improve dramatically

Put you bike against a wall and make markings at a few different spots ie saddle height, saddle nose, saddle rear, center of stem and BB.

Fit new saddle and align with all the markers.

Also measure the distance from your handlebars to the widest part of the saddle. Use saddle adjust app to het the angle or tilt correcrt. Last step. Height might differ with 2cm but once again use the distance from crank to the widest part of the saddle.

Use all the above tips and attemp yourself, if not happy then just go back to your set up guy.

Remember a new/different saddle may not be as comfy, its all about finding the one that works for you and then you just have to HTFU.
