We are looking into using setting up a facebook shop.

But I just wanted to do a quick sample poll.

How many of you, or how many people do you know that buy goods through facebook?

Not talking about the marketplace, but facebook shop

If you do not, would you consider it?

I have not seen Facebook Shop, only Marketplace.

I have used Marketplace to Buy and Sell. Not a fan.... The issue is not the platform, but rather the users that contact you.

2 out of 50 are serious buyers, the rest you reply with: "2000" or "Is this still available" and then nothing after you replied.

Have a look at the link below:

https://www.facebook.com/flipkart/

This is an example.

Before we lconvert our mini FB page into a cart, I would like to get some feedback from hubbers.

Never seen it before. It just seems to direct you to the e-commerce site. Tested it on the CWC Facebook page and it just redirects you to their normal website.

I don't have a problem with that, but I am thinking you want to have your Shop running in Facebook itself, but I have no idea what that would look like. Do you have an example of a South African retailer who runs a Shop like that on Facebook?

So that is the thing - when you click on the shop you either send a message or you go to the link on the website.

What we are thinking is to use the FB shop to highlight a few of our big sellers, but mainly drive people to our website.

But I am just not sure of the effort of the FB shop as it will have to be managed by moi!

Why not sell with bidorbuy?

or takealot?

We are wanting to stay local - and they already have our products.

We were thinking of an easier reach into our local area.

Anything without a rating system or some form of buyer protection is a risk. I bought some music equipment on Facebook lately, and it's not a pleasure. Very stressful and I always have to find a way to protect myself to a certain extent. Not sure how Facebook shop will be different.

most of these are just a link to an external website

you can create a "shop now" button on any facebook page. you click the link which takes you to the website

you can then promote the shop now button through targeted advertising which imo works well and is simple and easy to set up

when I started my fundraising page i did a campaign with certain selection criteria to get more "likes".

just be careful, every click on the add costs you money so rather promote your page to get people to like it and then drive promoting products, remember if Sannie likes your page, Pietie sees it and goes and have a look, you pay for Sannie's like, but Pietie is free.

I must say, having hired a social media person has changed the way I see FB.

And I dont like it, but it is a way to get sales, But this is a separate issue for me right now. And on ethical grounds I might just say no to the shop.

But, having said that - I get the sense that not many of you would use a FB shop.
