Heart-rate variability used for training

Quite interesting and informative discussion by GCN about how monitoring heart-rate variability (HRV) can determine how much you can push yourself during workouts to gain the most out of it. For example, if your HRV is low, it means that you are stressed or not entirely recovered yet and should not push yourself as hard during the workout. On the other hand, a higher HRV will indicate that your body is fresh and ready for peak performance.

Been using the app HRV4Training for over a year now to measure my HRV as soon as I wake.

Easy to read using your phone camera, if you have a samsung, there is an integrated part of the camera for specifically reading HRV.

Also syncs for me with Trainingpeaks to capture my previous days TSS to build a picture of my stress workload and in conjunction advises on my prediction for the day ahead and whether to take it easy or go for it.

Having used it extensively I have got to know my body pretty well as well as the analysis of HRV.  SO much so that I adapt my training for the day accordingly.

As my primary focus is triathlons, I train every day, so the information is invaluable :)
