Retul Bike Fit

One thing that I forgot to mention was the sensor that the fitter put on my saddle as part of the process which measured how I was sitting, moving etc. Fascinating to see how small adjustments to bar angle etc can make an impact on where the pressure is on your arse.

Not sure if this is a standard part of Retul as the shop claims to do more than the standard Retul fit.

Thanks for feedback - Specialized Dealer now R1700 for fitment - but if I spend that kind of money it must be worth it.

Not a pro and will never be one, but want to be comfortable on rides from 10km to 160km. ;-)

Do yourself a favour.

Go play around on here.  https://www.competitivecyclist.com/Store/catalog/fitCalculatorBike.jsp

Let someone help you and double check your measurements when taken.  Ad them in and see what pops out...........

I have used this as a starting point many years ago and played around up and down, forward and backward a few mm here and there..........

Did one..........and.......no..........no difference.

This was my second setup done in my life and value for money?..........not impressed.

Perhaps your setup was really good to start with ?

Very true.  That is what I thought also.  Having done this cycling thing a while and reading up on stuff surely gets you going into some good direction.

But then I would have liked SOME feedback.......a simple:

"Yes......stem length is okay but if you do this, this will happen...........seat height is good but if you lower it 1mm you could get more watts or not"

The gent measured me.  Wrote everything down and on I went on my merry way.  Not......"jip.....you are still good and should not change anything"........or......."If I was you I would change this or that"

Basic feedback.

Also he did adjust my seat by 2mm.  Did not use a torque wrench and that cost me R820 at Omnico for a new seatpost clamp.

So that was my experience.

Everyone will have a different experience and I think some people will definately get an improvement.

But like anything in life..........if you stop being lazy and start reading up on stuff and try to understand it, you can get pretty far on your own.

I am sure everyone would see the benefit no matter the stage of your cycling career...

Personally, I think it would be a great way for any amateur cyclist to start.  Pay the bucks, and get everything set up correctly from the start.

Added benefit would be to go back every few year(s) and use it as a measure tool or to increase efficiency.

Sounds like you had a poor experience. Whilst I went and got changed after the fit, the dude re-torqued most of the stuff on my bike as some of them weren’t right

The Retul system is a good system but like any system the fit is only as good as the fitter.

Visit your fitter and have a chat to them to get a feel for their expertise, attitude and general vibe.

Static fits are good - dynamic fits are better. Pedaling dynamics is the business!
