I want to know if anyone else has got any problems with this setup?

I fitted the setup but the hub has been giving issues from day one on.  Second hub and still issues.

Terrible noise coming from the hub when pedaling hard.

Hello Warren,

In the meantime I have cycled over 7000 kilometers with 140000 altimeters. In that time, the third wheel with a Shimano XT 12 speed hub is installed and it also makes a terrible noise especially with heavy load. Finally I get a new Newman wheel set and I am relieved of this misery.

Hey guys. I am following this thread since I'm also keen on upgrading to SLX soon.

When you talk about the hub making a noise, is this the part that connects the wheel to the cassette?

IE the "free hub" / "microspline" etc?

We have XT and SLX on our bikes. SLX freewheel hub been replaced due to failure and turning into a fixie. XT has had the same problem and I have replaced with Hope 4 and await the replacement Hub from CWC/Shimano. In my view the best combo is XT shifter, XT or SLX Derailleur, SLX Cassette and Shimano Chain. That Shimano Micrspline is too complex for a MTB.

It's not the microspline part that's the problem, it's the internals of the XT and SLX hubs that are too complex with their small springs and so on.

The deore hubs or no name shimano microspline hubs are much simpler and last. Very similar to the hope 4 hubs in simplicity
