  1. Or: "Do they charge the battery when you're not pedalling?"
  2. Ok, so we pull this thread into 2023. We have recently purchased ebikes and I am wanting to get a bike stand for services and cleaning. Any suggestion (other than Park) that will be strong enough to handle the 23-25kg bikes.
  3. That’s my wife in the background of the top pic!
  4. Interested to know how many Hubbers will be taking part in the Kwelera to Kei this weekend? Probably has the most "water" points per km than any other ride I am aware of. And the finish at Kei Mouth Country Club is just awesome.
  5. https://securi-lid.com/accessories/#yakima Here's the Yakima!
  6. Bought mine this weekend and it fits perfectly in the tool roll that fits snugly in the down tube "cubbyhole" on my TREK.
  7. Olympic Cycles. Recently purchased at R290.00.
  8. For me you can't beat the Shimano XT shifter, 11 and 12 speed. Coupled with an XT Derailleur, it shifts precisely and the added benefit of the multi shift up and down is great. We have one bike with an SLX shifter and it just doesn't compare with the XT. Cassettes we have XT, SLX on the 12 speeds, only really a weight difference. On the 11 speeds we have XT and Sunrace, Sunrace has the better spacing and works well with the XT components. I am not a SRAM fan, clearly. They seem to be quite "finniky".
  9. Hard tail plenty for that amount Dual Sus a little less. I recently sold a well specced Scalpel for R25k.
  10. Illness ....... Probably desperately trying to clear the system. Assuming he's guilty, of course!

    Transbaviaans 2022

So we started pretty much just after 05:00am. Vera's was our first stop and I had absolutely no feeling in my hands. Took off a glove and spent near 10 min trying to get it back on again. Gear shifting and braking was definitely not by feel.😀 Next stop we were caught by the 2nd team to finish and Yolanda was being interviewed and it was mentioned that she is not one to be seen in a tech zone. Her comment was "it's the worst I've been in". Anyway we were too far in to consider a bailout until Pakhuis. And that we did. Stopping in the middle would have been worse, there was nowhere to warm up. My thinking was that we had around 60+ km of misery still to go from Pakhuis and we were well behind any predicted time, Oh and I don't do this for a living, so we called it. All the best to those doing it this weekend, hope it's kinder to you.
  12. FLYA make good quality cycling kit. I find SISU to have some of the best Bibs, the pad inserts are great quality.
  13. https://www.topeak.com/global/en/product/351-SMARTGAUGE-D2 I have one and it's a very good product, battery can be replaced.
  14. There are many cost factors in setting up a race. I normally just compare it to a round of golf. Anything from R150.00 to R350.00. You lose balls, you get frustrated, there's usually some oke with a concocted handicap that wins the compo anyway. Rather ride my bike with a big group of likeminded individuals and get fit in the process even if it costs a few bob!😉
  15. Give it horns partner! I'll see you on the route, coffee in hand!
  16. I am essentially a Gravel Grinder and so find myself wearing out the 10, 12 and 14 tooth rings on my cassette. Apparently one can buy these loose and essentially "refurbish" your cassette for a longer life at a much lower than complete part price. Anyone done this or know where I can source these parts?
  17. True! Fortunately I'm not a weight weenie, just pedal a little harder. Saves on carrying 2 additional pairs of specs!
  18. I think my 1030 might disagree! 😃
  19. So after 8 years on my trusted Scalpel that enjoyed many an upgrade during that time. Probably could have bought another two with the money spent. I was given a no brainer trade in at my LBS on the purchase of this beauty. Switched over my crank and power meter, the Spez Saddle and the Riser Bars and boy she is a super machine. As comfy as can be, with very different handling. Have subsequently change the rubber to something that rolls a little quicker and easier for the longer flatter rides.
  20. Half as easy, you still have to either get to the start or from the finish, depending on where you live. From PE it was pretty costly!
  21. Yes, it certainly is an event that I will never forget. We have many chats about those 9 days. The thing is, apart from the pretty hefty entry fee, the cost of the logistics is at the very least an additional R15k. Flights, accommodation before and after, bike transport and services, etc.
