peetwindhoek Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 I prefer wider tires. I have Ikon front and Rekon Race back on my mtb, both at 2.35. And that skinwall must be at least an extra 10W, would be my next buy if on special!

I have used a specialized Fast Trak, Ground Control, Vittoria Barzo and Maxxis Crossmark 2 as a rear tire, and the Ikon is the best. Only fault is that it wears relatively quickly. Grip is unbelievable, better than the Barzo and Ground Control and I am riding mostly on loose over hard pack. I literally would not believe it if you told me, reckon that 3C compound is magic.

Currently got 1300km on it, and now that I think of it maybe I was a bit rash saying it is fast wearing. I was riding more than normal as was training for 361, seem to have got time and km confused. I am generally happy with anything over 2000km on a rear tire.

Me rida my bicycle Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 My rear Ikon skinwall looked worst for wear with only +-700km but that was tar roads to the trails and hard riding. Changed to a Ardent rear and it was better a specially under braking. On my dual i am running 2.35 ikons on 29mm ID rim's (HT had 30mm ID) and 1 thing they are nice and big in volume bigger than the 2.4 Ardent on a slightly wider rim.Although the 2.2 ikons also has good volume they are to narrow on wide rims, the sidewalls stick out and it does not take long for the skinwall to get loads of marks when riding rocks.One thing since I have been riding Maxxis (started with skinwall on HT) I run low pressure (18-22 psi on HT) and never had a sidewall cut or pinch flat.

BMXER Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 I really like the ride of the ikon.Just stay away from the aspen. I found the aspen terrible when it so much as smelt moisture.
