I wouldn't pay the entry fee yet.

Ironman is lucky that they already stagger the start, they can expand on that. Maybe cut down the field too?

Ultimately, I imagine the list of 'saftey' hoops to jump through will be hopelessly unfeasible.

Problem is training for it.Cannot get in a pool yet,so that is probably the main concern. The rest is fine. But yes, feasibilty for them a issue....and no speactators to cheer you on....

possibly with a reduced field for the pro's and maybe top age groupers aiming to qualify, but it definitely won't be a 3000 participant event, unless they stagger it over multiple days with individual starting minutes apart

i entered stuff for January next year just to keep some sub-conscious level of motivation, but I'm doubtful that any mass participation sporting events will happen in the way we used to until mid 2021 or later.  covid has been with us for 4 months now and it's not yet even come close to home for most of us.  To assume that it would all be over in another 4 months would be pretty optimistic

Challenge Cape Town (70.3 distance) is scheduled the weekend before full IM. If they announce a cancellation or postponement in the next week or two, I think that could be an indication.

I see IMSA 70.3 Buffalo City entries will be opening next week. I’m normally one of those that enter first thing they open. This time round I’ll be waiting till the last day of entries before I make a move. I’ll be happy to pay the increased fee if it means having a better idea of it happening or not.
