2020 BC Bike Race Update

by Moniera Khan | Jun 12, 2020 | BC Bike Life

Despite our most optimistic efforts to press forward with our September event, indications are that health regulations will not be eased sufficiently to allow us to proceed.  As a part of BC’s Restart plan, Phase 4 is when activities with  large gatherings of greater than 50 people will be permitted. The Phase 4 timeline is undetermined, and Phase 3 will be in place until late fall or when a vaccine is available. At this point, it is with great disappointment that we are forced to cancel our 2020 race. We are grateful to our racers for their patience and understanding as well as to our sponsors and partners for their continued support.

We have communicated directly with our racers to let them know that their 2020 race entry can be deferred to 2021, 2022 and 2023 without requiring any additional purchase or transfer fees. For 2021 we are developing a fresh new course for the BC Bike Race as well as an exciting new event for September 2021. Details will be unveiled as the new event comes together.

We are planning a series of virtual rides over what would have been race week.  We invite you to join us on our virtual race week next month so we can all ride together virtually – wherever you are. Watch for details on this coming in the next few weeks.

All of us are so disappointed to have race week cancelled for 2020, but we’ll be back next year and look forward to putting on our best event yet.  Stay safe, stay healthy and keep pedaling.

That's what the Epic organizers should have done....

NYC Marathon did the same.

That's quite interesting coz Whistler is open. I suppose it's easier to enforce social distancing etc in a non race environment. And probably no international visitors are there.

Yeah think it has a lot to do with the number of competitors, race village complications and it being an event as rather than just an open bike park.

I can't see any stage races taking place in 2020. Cape Pioneer Trek is deferred to 2021.

If Wines2Whales happens it might be an elite field only for the UCI points (counting toward Olympic qualification.)

If Double Century happens there's likely to be no social afterward and the teams will not be allowed to bunch. This will be strictly enforced. Proposal gone to the minister already apparently
