Looking for Jump/trail bike

Hi all, new to the the jump bike scene, looking for a jump bike that can also hande a some trails for my son, some guidence and recommendations would be fantastic.

So specific Jump bike( Dirt Jumper) is quite unique, with its geometry and saddle position it would not be very comfy to take on a trail ride. I would recommend to possible get an aggressive hard tail with a bit slacker geometry, 650b wheel size and a dropper post. A few examples you can google are the Silverback Slade trail, Octane one prone and Commencal Meta AM HT are a few that come to mind. Will give you a basic idea what to look out for. You can hit some reasonably sized jumps and do a trail ride as well. 

The other hubbers might give you some more ideas.

Guys on 20" BMXs fly the jump lines and dirt jump parks.

 

Decide which type of riding your son will do more of and set up accordingly.

 

I put a dropper on a dirt jump and comfortable rode around Jonkers down everything but Plumber and status Quo. 

 

Maybe start with how old/big your son is too. There are some cool options about

Thank jewbacca for the insights, my son is turning 12, he has a legion trick bike and a stunt scooter, we usually hit eduplex pump track and pwc, he used to ride Enduro motorbikes so can handle most jumps, he likes to ride a mix of everything but at the moment can't jump the pump tracks very well on the trick bike, the jump bikes usually seem to be a single gear ratio so not great on the scramble tracks. I know weight is key on the jump bikes but was hoping there was some sort of middle ground I could get without going full mountain bike.

It also has bottle cage mounts which is rare on a jump bike.

 

It ticks all your boxes and will ride well.

Spoke to the chap and he said that my son already being about 1.5m tall he would outgrow the bike in a year.

I would keep looking. It’s really not the best bikes for jumping.

 

*ps it’s a dual suspension, not a soft tail.

OK round 3, this looks like pure dj bike but I am sure I can put extra gears on. Just worried that's its a 26"

Nothing wrong with 26" and for a jump bike its probably preferable, also size wise for you son
