Just one hill too far for the Tour de France protagonists? More than 5000 m vert and exposed windy plains make for one helluva course. I am interested in The Shark of Messina and whether he will podium, at least.

 

There is a long segment to the white chalk after the last climb. Should someone summit first, the rider will need more than a handful of seconds to stay away. Very reminiscent of Kwia's rainbow jersey victory on that rainy day a few years ago.

 

There will be a selection up the Cima Gallisterna, surely, especially for the 2nd last time. Remember, there are no race radios today. Don't blink!

 

Chapeau to Anna vdB for a rare double. There were rumours of her retiring. This would be truly the closure of a career when she's at the top.
