Hi all,

After a short ride around Delta on Sat my bike got it's weekly clean and I've noticed some oil is coming out of my right fork at the adjustment knob. Now I'd usually take my bike to the super close and convenient S+J but they don't seem to be there any more, so I figured it's about time I learn a bit about my bike anyway. I did some youtubeing and it looks simple enough to get the lowers off so off I went to the garage. What could go wrong right. Now the adjustment knob looks like this:

And I have no idea how to get it off. The fork is a RST First fork, 130mm, boost for a 27.5+ if that helps at all. Doesn't seem like a very popular fork in my searches.

So question time, how do I get this little guy off? Failing which any recommendations for bike shops close to or around Randburg that would know how to do this.

Any suggestions welcome, thanks in advance!

Doesn't that just pull off?

Doesn't that just pull off?

I don't think so, this is under the fork so if it could just pull off wouldn't it come off whilst riding?

Quick question.

Why are you wanting to take the lowers off?

I thought doing a service on the lowers would be a good starting point, but totally open to more experienced suggestions.

No there's is usually a metal ring that snaps in place or an roing that uses friction to stay in

Alternatively there would be a grub screw, of not then it definitely just pulls out

The nut under that has a crush washer (or should) this likely needs to be replaced if the fork is leaking oil

Crush washer is a soft plastic ring that confirms into all the little gaps as the bolt gets tightened up to the damper shaft or airshaft (damper shaft in the OP's case)

On my Suntour and RS forks the rebound adjuster at the bottom if the fork leg just 'pulls' out and exposes the bolt underneath that holds the lowers to the internal part of the uppers. Its just a tight fit due to the O ring.

Thanks everyone. You're all correct, it just needed a solid pull.

And the fork side in case anyone else finds this useful:

You should find service docs or at least exploded views on RST's site. Once you know how it goes together the troubleshooting should be reasonably simple.
