Saw you in the 100km race.. (Actually called you Sharky cause I couldn't remember your hub name haha, needless to say you didn't respond). Damn this wasn't your average PPA race where we normally sit at the front the entire time! I was hanging on for dear life on that second lap! I'm only now catching my breath

ahaha I completely missed this post !

I was there, what a lovely day out, finally no wind and a nice sunny day out ! Races like that I would love to have every weekend, I almost regretted not entering the 150km, but after racing the XCO event the day before I was really not sure how fit I'd be, plus the wife would probably have killed me if I came home both days after lunch time

Great, I knew at least one other hubber had to be at this race!

Ya it was a spicy one for sure! I tried to go with just about every attack I could see on the first lap but I wised up to the fact that they always get reeled in. So on the second lap I sat in the bunch a lot, close enough to keep an eye out for any serious moves. And crucially close enough to the front to miss all those crashes! I got a bit boxed in at the end but put in a decent sprint for 8th.

There were so many surges where the pace would immediately drop off afterwards. Very frustrating.

So good to be racing again though!

I don't know if I could have done the 150km the day after another race. I think you made a good call

You must be one of the ones who passed me when I stopped pedling like an idiot thinking the line was where the two posts with speakers on top of them were... lost at least 3 places there and finished 11th

Definitely that would have been a bad idea. Everytime I was trying to get into a breakaway I'd realise I only had enough legs to stay behind comfortably, but not really to be in the front. At the end of lap two when we got on the R44 I tried to catch the one guy that was alone in the front but quickly realised I'd never be able to keep like this for 10km

The U19 guys fighting with each other in the bunch worked on my nerves! Swerving all over the place.

Kris (Pure Savage kit) basically did most the work at the front the entire race. The young guys just looking around, no one willing to take a turn.

Apparently one of the U19s that switched one of the Absolute Motion guys on the finishing straight that caused that crash at the end.

I got dropped right at the end..had a horrible day just trying to fight to survive at the back of the bunch.

Yeah I also think good call. Malcolm tried it and didn't work out..

I was doing a training ride when you okes came flying past me. Either I'm getting to old or I am still too unfit (probably both) but just no way I would have been able to hang in that bunch for 100km, the pace was seriously impressive.

Was a great day for racing, should really get myself back into this racing thing..

Thanks for the freebie then!

I don't feel like I'm getting my money's worth if I just sit in the entire race and then sprint at the end. I like to feel like I contributed to the pace in some small way at least.

Frik, the Absolute Motion guy that got chopped at the end, is luckily in good shape. Soul crushing to crash 800m from the line though

So many stupid moves in that last km, I decided to stay to right side even if that meant more  watts to produce or having to dodge cars... I've seen a guy getting completely squeezed between two riders 30 secs before that crash happened. And in the first 10mins of the race I got rear ended by some guy when I believe someone crashed in front of us (not sure about that) causing the bunch to slow down quite suddenly. Anyways, I'd rather have to work harder than take risks when people get a little bit over excited / brain fade

Yeah absolutely, I agree! I just couldn't this Sunday, I felt pap. I closed down one of Kris's breakaway attacks just before we turned back towards Windmeul, then those little climbs moered me all the way to the back, and from there all I could do was fight to find a wheel.

Eventually got dropped just before that crash. I saw it happening a few hundred meters in front of me. So in that regard I'm glad I got dropped at that point rather than being part of the pile-up!

I wasn't criticizing you for sitting in the bunch btw. Sometimes it's the smartest thing you can do.

Glad you managed to stay upright

That was my Trans Baviaans teammate that caused that early bunch slow down. He was sitting near the front in the middle and his chain dropped when we started the climb, bodies everywhere so couldn't move out of the way to the side. Miraculously no one crashed into him!
