What has happened to Connex chains in SA? Cant find anybody stocking these? Are we all just Shimano/Sram sheep?

And KMC for those that dare to be different. :)

I was actually random searching for this very thing this morning too...

Bicycle power trading used to bring them in .

They no longer do .

I loved those chains .

Takealot had a few Connex sets available a while ago ... I bought 3 sets just to have some future stock ;)

Also tried finding them locally, now I just import a couple of sets at a time. They do last and their easy link works really well which is important for me because I swap my chains frequently.

Where do you import them from ?

yes, one of the reasons I love Connex too, as their chain-connector-links are stated as reusable, thus for cleaning and re-waxing the chain it's perfect.

As for SRAM, it's not always the case (one time use only on some links)

Agree, the primary reason I swap my chains is because I use hot wax and it's a lot quicker to do if it's easy to remove the chain.

and they reliable and no issues with shipping etc?

Lots of issues with getting stuff from Germany .... problem arises when it hits SA and trying to micro-manage it through customs etc. It sometimes disappear off the system for weeks.

DHL-de is contracted by the German government to perform postal service in Germany. Once it leaves Germany it's handed over to SA's local SAPO/EMS service. Sadly the German online cycle shops like Starbike and Bike24 don't have the option to select "DHL Express". The DHL German bike-shops refer too for selection is their local postal service.

Thus I started using "Aramex Global Shopper" now when ordering from Germany.

(Edit: Hardly any issues when I was able to select a proper shipping agent at purchase though)

Yes, I've used all of them in the past. Shipping varies from supplier to supplier, some use post office and others couriers, but all provide tracking of some sort. However, in general, shipping is still slower than it used to be.

When it hits Takealot, it's invariably last stock. :(
