Ja, maybe, no as others have said.

But I doubt it.!

From what I'm hearing, the Wellington, Paarl, Ceres areas has been heavily impacted by Covid.

Cant really compare IM events to road races with groups of 100+ all together.

100+ is really only CTCT.

Winelands can easily make groups of 50 and keep start groups separated.

My start group at Paarl Cycle Tour 2020 was 55 large, and that was without an incentive to minimize group sizes...

Do you really think it's ok to have 50 sweaty, snot rocketing dudes you don't know all riding around for a few hours right on top of each other is a great idea?

I mean it.

I definitely don't, especially as it 100% isn't necessary.

20 is too many, even 10 strangers in that scenario is too many

I entered this on the 3rd of november, with a glass half full mindset.

I think there's a 25% chance it will go ahead

even if that happens, I doubt I'll ride it.

I don't expect any money back, PPA are doing all they can, so all credit to them.

I wasn't commenting on whether or not it's okay, just commenting that this race would not even under normal circumstances consider 100+ group sizes, let alone during covid.

But on the topic of transmission risk during cycling:

I've only seen transmission reported for outdoor sports where there is direct and frequent contact, i.e. defender and attacker being in each others face for prolonged periods.

Guy comes here from Mars: Whats happening here?

Earthling: Pandemic worldwide - spreads like crazy and people dying all over!

Mars guy: Ok - No wonder the lockdown all over, masks, economies shut down

Earthling: Except Sweden - Wow they messed up alright.

Swedish current stats: Population over 65 yo = 2.1 million

Covid deaths in this age group = 7419

% of 2.1 million = .35%

Population under 65 yo = 8.4 million

Covid deaths in this group = 365

% of 8.4 million = .004%

Mars guy: mmmmmm
