OK, so the learning continues ...

I was spinning my wheels on the new

mtn bike Big%20smile Big%20smile, listening for any odd noises eminating from the wheels. With

some suprise I noticed that the rear disc does not spin in a perfect circle,

but rather slightly oval, maybe a few mm, but still something you can notice when you look closely.

Should this be something to worry

about as these are brand new discs and wheels? (they have seen about

1km of tar and 500m of grass verge to date)Confused

Your bike is trying to tell you that it needs to be ridden offroad, for at least 20k's or more. It's trying to tell you that mtb's on the road are gay.

I've also had oval discs, never bothered me enough to find out if it's a flaw, a feature, or if I should stop working on my own bike. If it works don't fix it.

They're not oval. I think it's as a result of the holes in the rotor being slightly larger than the bolts that hold them to the hub, thus they are not perfectly in the middle.

Mine are the same....don't worry about it.

DISCLAIMER: JUST MY OPINION....DON'T BLAME ME IF IT BREAKS

It's a feature, not a fault. I once read in a motorbike review by a local motoring hack that irregularly shaped disks (this one looked like a daisy) improve cooling. He never answered me when I asked him to explain how.

mud clearance out of the dics break itself.  Some discs are daisy shaped, others have lots of holes, others actually have teeth.  that and cooling (more cooling surface maybe?).  And for some it looks way cool

Yeah' date=' come on Slowbee, the Helderberg awaits you and your (almost) virgin bike![/quote']

Well, it's only been on a bit of grass, so I guess in virginity terms that's a bit like feeling if there's grass on the pitch? WinkLOL

The bike is still a virgin.

If I had a new bike waiting for me at home I would have left a long time ago.

No wait? I wouldn?t have gone to work.
