Differences, advantages/disadvantages and just a general opinion of them both

Only advantage of the sid select is price. Sid ultimate is more tuneable, about 300 grams lighter and a superior fork overall. Never ridden either one but comparing my experience riding the rockshox lyrik select plus vs the ultimate, the ultimate feels much better and you can set it up really dialed.

If you have the money get the ultimate, it is better in every way.

Erm, no. SID Select+ can only be bought with a new bike or second hand. Ultimate can be had on a new bike or on its own. Weight is the main difference between the two as the damper on the Ultimate is tiny. Neither model had compression damping adjustment, just open or locked out with low speed rebound adjustment. The Ultimate feels a bit firmer than the Select+. Both are very good light trail or XC forks

There’s always that one guy….😂

back to the question

select + has a charger 2RL damper

ultimate has a Charger Race Day damper which a much more compact unit containing less oil and less forgiving of missing service intervals

there’s also subtle changes to the ultimates lower legs to reduce weight

.race day damper can be tuned internally but external adjustments are minimal.
charger 2RL is factory set and all you can do is adjust the air pressure and air spring curve with bottomless tokens. There’s the std rebound and open /lockout lever with high speed compression adjusted on the way to lockout. If a lockout lever is installed it’s open ( what ever that means in the tuning range for the SID’s damper and locked solid.

an upgrade RLC damper is available which allows HSC and LSC compression adjust with lock out on the HSC adjustment stop.

oh most importantly the ultimate is available in SiD blue or black

select+ Is available in any colour as long as it’s black

Ok thank you. I never knew that, I (wrongly) assumed the ultimate had compression damping adjustment.
