Been is sales almost all my working career - "leads" is not the correct terminology for what they are measuring. A lead is where the seller gets information on a potential buyer that they can contact and try negotiate a sell / buy transaction.

what they are measuring is views or hits which of course is also reflected in the stats

We report on views (someone clicking on your advert to view the details) separately from what we currently refer to as a lead (someone either initiating a chat conversation or clicking to reveal your phone number, presumably with the intent of contacting you). This metric is intended to be a signal of interest/intent

You're right that it's not correct to call it a "lead". It's a term we'd used loosely internally with an understanding of what it meant, but it's a bit confusing and unintentionally misleading for end users.

We'll put some thought into better labelling it in the new year.

It makes perfect sense to me. When I saw those metrics after the upgrade I pieced together that 'leads' meant either messages or clicks to view my phone number.

A list of these people comes up when you mark the item as sold and the review process starts.

How ever you label it, there will always be people who either don't understand or will tell you it's mislabelled/wrong.

It isn't. If it's a click that might lead to a sale, it's a lead.
