MTB shoe options?

Which MTB shoes (not flats) do you folk recommend as a good alternative for the R4,000 Specialized Recon 3.0?

Been using Specialized shoes for years now but they’ve gone from R1,400 to R4,000 in about 7 years. So getting seriously expensive.

Have tried their Recon 2.0 but the sole is way too soft (feet getting hurt).

Interesting that you raise this. I have only ever bought Specialized shoes and for the first time, today actually, I started looking at other brands. The last 3 pairs of Specialized have had issues, so was keen to see what else is out there. Best I could find, in my opinion, is Shimano. Check out the current deals on Evobike. Regarding your price concerns, I think you will find most brands, if not all, have seen a significant price increase over the past few years.

Currently looking at the Louis Garneau Hillibilli xc shoes to replace my current Specialized Experts, which I'll keep as spare.

I know Trailwolf Cycles are currently running 10% off on their LG shoe stock.

If you can justify it get a pair of S-Works recons, it’s expensive but everything in this bloated industry is.  Your feet will thank you.
