Hi hubbers. Trust you are all well. I have found a Garmin Edge 830 and Wahoo Element Roam for about the same price. What are the negatives and positves of each? And if it was your money which one would you buy?

I can't compare the two specific devices but I have a Wahoo Element Bolt and a Garmin Edge 1040 - the Garmin is an awesome piece of tech with amazing features, but I find the Wahoo much more intuitive. That said, the Wahoo was my first bike computer so maybe I'm just more used to it.

Edge 830 has a touchscreen, 3x the battery life of the Wahoo, huge choice of widgets, apps and screens to install.

Wahoo has a more legible screen if your eyesight is poor but works with buttons, mediocre battery life, perhaps a little more intuitive to use.

Both excellent choices

Thanks for the info. Will keep this in my head when deciding to buy.

Many people find the Wahoo more intuitive. So in your case the Wahoo is more likely to get the vote?

Based on user experience, yes. I think the Roam and 830 are close in terms of feature sets - in which case, I would say that the Wahoo will be much more intuitive. Given the choice between a Wahoo and a Garmin with the same features, I would pick a Wahoo any day, but that's not the case in terms of the top end models at the moment, unfortunately.

I hope I'm not sidetracking the thread, but have also been looking at the Wahoo roam, the Roam V1 is currently on sale thru Wahoo fitness.com as well as one of the big bike shops, it's a good price at R3999 or R4999 for the head unit with sensor bundle. However it's a 4 year old device originally launched in 2019 with the V2 that was launched last year will there be support issues down the line for the older V1? Basically being half the price of the V2 makes the V1 an attractive option.

The edge 830 touchscreen is a dog show when wet. Device starts behaving psychotically delving into its menu system, randomly scrolling through screens. Only starts behaving again when wiped down .... Otherwise it's a stellar little computer.

I have an 830 and I live in Vancouver. If you are unaware, Vancouver makes the UK seem like a dessert. I do ride in the rain, no issues. And if you are having issues, just tap the power button up lock the screen
