Not a duplicate thread!!

I went to the velodrome last night as well - really enjoyed it !!! (Ok, I sat in the UCI reserved seats as well but it's not my fault the signs are so small LOL)

A few questions for the informed:

1) Is there a restriction on the gearing i.e. are all competitirs using exactly the same gearing or are there parameters stipulated only.

2) What's the use of issueing a warning in a race, after the race, if it is the final ?!!!!

3) WHERE ARE THE SOUTH AFRICAN COMPETITORS ???!!! (To see competitors from Mexico, Chile, and other small countries in the finals of races and yet no South Africans is a sad indictment on our sport. It surely is not due to lack of talent !!!

P.S. I took a newbie cyclist with the familly and she found it an awesome experience - so much so that I am going back tonight !!!!

No gearing restriction, only a nice man in the centre checking the bike weights constantly.

Not sure, GreyOwl/Chunky.....

The were spectating behind the Aussie contingent, not lack of talent just lack of exposure

Cool, I'm trying to wangle another bike coupon for tonight, last night was awesome.

It's brilliant and the lack of local spectators bewilders me Wacko.

Some of these guys/gals are mega-stars of the future and while watching it's difficult to comprehend they're only pikkies around 17 years old Shocked

The "water" down in Aus must be good, the size of those kids is amazing Wink

Went along last night and am now considering going back again to watch..... WAS excellant riding. Madison was not for the faint hearted.

I am sorry that I missed the Men's points race.... believe it was a thriller.

Great cycling. Well done to all (No South Africans anywhere!!!!!!) and speedy recovery to those unfortunate fallers, especially in the Ladies points race.... not nice at all.

Warning against riders after a final regarding their riding could probably be for their participation in other events yet to come. When i was junior there WAS a gearing rule on juniors, but its such a heavy gear that very few juniors in the world would ride it any way.

Very sad to see that Clint Hendricks fell badly during the Scratch race leg of the Omnium.

Its no secret our guys are seriously off the pace...but just by how much was a big surprise to me.

Regardless of that fact, the track events have been incredible. Had it not been for the Aussie, Kiwi, German, Italian and UCI supportersI would be amazed if anyone had been in the stands...

racman, i echo your impressions. went to watch track for the first time at hnp last year, then went back for the sa champs. loved it. then i did a day at the track with sheldon at pilditch. loved it. got a schwinn madison for next to nothing, but have yet to take it to the track (or any of my bikes near anything resembling a race this year) smiley9.gif would like to learn and watch a lot more! smiley4.gif holy roller2008-07-16 10:40:59
