That sounds like the Klipheuwel trail, with a string of A-frames.

All perfectly ridable.  Patrick and his team keeps a good eye on these, or rather, members moan quickly and then Patrick fixes it the next day.

What he said 🙂 Yes, you are indeed on Klipheuwel trails. I especially chose this route for its ease of A-frame crossing and the route's fast flow with a mix of tight, non-technical single track sections and some wide "jeep track" sections which makes overtaking possible without being dangerous

@NicholasH Quick question - do I understand the website correct that no substitutions are allowed? I entered early but a school activity unexpectedly popped up for Sat Morning, would not want my entry go to waste.

email me and I will assist

It depends if you know your way around going over an a-frame. If you are a mountain biker, it's easy peasy. The fun part is the bumpy single track, which isn't gravel bike friendly, inbetween the a-frames

@KB280DT and I have often wondered about the mindset to tackle these (Klipheuwel) trails on a gravel bike.  EACH time we talk about it, we spot a couple of gravel bikes on these trails.

Clearly there are many that get their kicks out of this.

Yep, and that is the beauty of the Trilogy - Fast gravel bike on the tar and gravel, only to be beaten by a proper full-sus on the 13km of single track

Should make for some EPIC photos with gravel bikes barreling down some of those rutted sections ....

Those Klipheuwel trails are a piece of cake on a gravel bike, there's really nothing technical out there to worry about. By that stage in the race the whole pack is pretty much strung out and tired so there's no fighting for lines. Just don't hit those A frames at speed and go over the bars like one of the women did last year. She went nighty night for a few minutes 😖

So ideally you want a hardtail.

Yep...that was the only incident we had on the trails. Happened at the very 1st A Frame. Going to have a marshal there this year

Let it begin 😉

Usual “if you believe a Cape Town forecast a week out I have some nice snake oil to sell you” disclaimers, but temperature is looking nice, at least.

that cross-headwind on the way back could make for a lot of people sheltering in the gutters and could reduce the echelons crossing the middle line at least 😂

So either HOT ... or raining, according to the latest long term guestimates ....

This is Cape Town....put on sunscreen before the race and then put on your raincoat. Sorted for the weather 😆

It was almost funny watching the riders at Winelands.

You cold see who went out training in the wind ..... and who did not
