Hey guys and girls,

I’ve found myself spending a lot more time in Cape Town on business, and looking for where the best spots are to get road bike rentals in Cape Town for a single day. The ones I’ve found online seem to be having a laugh with their pricing. Like R600/day for an entry level bike with Sora, with others even quoting you in Euros. Surely there are shops that aren’t focused on fleecing foreigners? Thanks

Have you ever tried renting a bicycle in Europe and see what you pay? I don't think R600 is unreasonable seeing the risks here are probably higher.
Having said that, maybe just buying an older 2ndhand bike would be a better option, there's some bargains to be had on the older 10 speed bikes?

Europe can be steep for sure, that said I recently rented a decent Spezialised for 3 hours at €30, less than a day on a Sora groupset in Cape Town. Our local shops clearly know their target market (confirmed by the fact Cycling Friends even quote in Euros on their SA site).  N+1 for the win!! Buying a secondhand bike is definitely the answer actually, now I  just need a place to store it 😅
